Volunteer Deputy Registrars
Volunteer Deputy Registrars are entrusted with the responsibility of officially registering voters in the State of Texas. They are appointed by county voter registrars and charged with helping increase voter registration in the state. If you wish to become a Volunteer Deputy Registrar, you must attend training provided by the Bastrop County Elections Department.
Volunteer Deputy Registrar Training is held on the second Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. *Trainings will NOT be conducted after the deadline to register to vote for any given election. Trainings will resume 2 weeks after election day. Please check the event calendar for training dates.*
Appointment of VDRs Trained in other Counties- If a volunteer deputy registrar has already been trained and appointed in another county during the current appointment cycle, he/she does not have to attend the regularly scheduled training in Bastrop County. Training will be held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 10 a.m. for VDRs who have already attended training in another county and been appointed as a VDR. Effective January 1, 2019, walk-in appointments/training of VDRs will no longer be accepted. *Trainings will NOT be conducted after the deadline to register to vote for any given election. You must contact the Elections Department to register for the training class that you wish to attend and complete the Request for Appointment as a Volunteer Deputy Registrar and bring it with you to training.
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of training. Training will being promptly at 10 a.m. Late arrivals will NOT be accepted. All training classes will be conducted on the lower level of the Courthouse Annex Building at 804 Pecan Street, Bastrop, Texas 78602.
